Constructed in the 20th century over a period of 14 years, this
palace of
Jodhpur is a classic example of Indo-colonial style of architecture. A
unique feature of this palace is that the hand-chiseled sandstone blocks have
been put together in an interlocking pattern without any mortar binding. Part of
the palace has been converted into a museum that has a fascinating collection of
artifacts of the royal era.
Chamunda Devi Temple - This famous
temple of
Rajasthan dedicated to Goddess Durga stands at the end of the
Meherangarh
Fort.
Jaswant Thada - Made of white marble, this is the 19th
century royal cenotaph of Maharaja Jaswant Singh was built in 1899.
The marble latiicework is awesome. Some rare portraits of
the rulers of Jodhpur are displayed here.
Meherangarh Fort -
Situated on a 125m high hill, this majestic
fort of Rajasthan is one of
the largest forts in India. Parts of the fort bear signs of mighty attacks, the
first of the seven gates being scarred by cannon ball hits. The fort houses
magnificent
palaces of Rajasthan like the Moti Mahal, Phool Mahal and
Sheesh Mahal that are ornately decorated with carved screens and latticed
windows. The museum has a fascinating collection of the fabulous possessions of
the Maharajas - furniture, miniature paintings, musical instruments, and
costumes.

Mandore - Situated 8kms from Jodhpur is captivating capital of
Marwar. The main attraction is the Hall of Heroes, which has sixteen huge
figures carved out of a single rock wall. The
Shrine of 330
million Gods, the royal cenotaphs and the sprawling gardens are some of the
other attractions.
Ossian - The ancient city of Ossian is
65kms from Jodhpur. Situated here are the Brahmanical and Jain temples belonging
to the 8th and 11th centuries. They are famous for their tranquil
beauty.
Sardar Samand Lake and Palace - The drive to this wildlife
center is intermitted by sights of colorful villages and the traditional
lifestyles.
